Earlier this year, Forbes named West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Delray Beach the 12th fastest growing metropolitan division in the U.S., with 7.37 percent projected wage growth in 2018.

Lynn University recently commissioned its own study to determine the needs of local employers and the career interests of college-bound high school students and adults.

“We wanted to give working professionals in the community a voice,” said Steven Pruitt, director of graduate and online admission. “It was important for us to know what they needed to achieve their career goals.”

The study, which included a gap analysis, compared job openings to the number of college graduates who earned degrees related to those occupations. Researchers also analyzed enrollment data to evaluate demand and market share.

Preparing A Workforce To Meet Industry Demand

Lynn’s research showed significant five-year growth in several areas, including healthcare administration and computer sciences. In response, the university developed new programs, including five undergraduate majors, one graduate program and eight graduate certificates for the College of Business and Management.

“It’s our mission to provide personalized learning opportunities that help students realize their full potential,” said RT Good, dean, College of Business and Management. “South Florida’s evolving economic climate craves a workforce with practical and critical thinking skills. It’s our job to create a space that supports student interests as well as community demands.”

The College of Business and Management’s new graduate-level certificates allow students to accomplish career goals without committing to a full-time graduate program. The certificate credits can be applied toward a future graduate degree, should the student decide to continue their studies.

“As people progress in their career, we often hear that they want to hone their knowledge in a specialized topic to complement their existing experience,” Good said. “Certificate programs are a great way to enhance your knowledge and get a sense of what an advanced degree may entail.”

Lynn offers certificates in:

  • Entrepreneurial management
  • Financial valuation and investment management
  • Healthcare management
  • Hospitality management
  • Human resources management
  • International business management
  • Marketing
  • Sports management

Designing Courses With Professionals In Mind

Lynn’s graduate courses, as well as those for professional certificates, are offered online and in the evenings and follow an accelerated track.

“We understand the needs of students with obligations outside of the classroom and that sets our online and graduate programs apart from others,” said Pruitt. “Our faculty are committed to student success, and we’ve invested in technology to make a Lynn education accessible.”

For example, Lynn’s award-winning iPad-powered learning allows students to complete an MBA in as little as one year and at a price similar to state institutions. This approach allows students to complete their coursework any time and from anywhere and saves money on traditional textbook costs, among other benefits.
